Played a larger game, game frozen, nothing moves. Only thing I can find on my system is that video memory is nearly maxed out according to MSI afterburner and is requested at 1. Something is better than nothing though, yet the game has frozen up and is not using ANY shared RAM at all even though it would at least keep things moving somewhat.

Same thing with GPU's, running everything in onboard memory is nuts. However it's Window's OS which I believe is responsible for assigning it and Microsoft just calls it the neutral, non-trademarked name of "shared system video memory" or something like that. Much required optimization! Without it the game is prone to freezing, at least with a 1GB card. Showing 1 - 5 of 5 comments.

problems with dedicated and shared graphics memory

It doesn't look like you've even tried or it would still be in the game. Like I said, slow is better than frozen. Also I still had full camera control, just all units frozen like time had stopped.

Nothing was moving at all. Last edited by Rove ; 16 Mar, am. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 16 Mar, am. Posts: 5. Discussions Rules and Guidelines. Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising, and problematic harassment, fighting, or rude posts.

That is a help for some graphical features but not necessarily a guarantee to run games which explicitely demand a certain base of dedicated video RAM. Many games check the video hardware before launching, and if they find 64 MB VRAM and require more, it's often game over. The dynamically allocated shared memory can't be checked and is of no interest here. But you'll be confronted with a vicious circle: That you're hoping for help from the shared memory, is a clear indicator of an already slow and asthenic graphics solution which an integrated video adapter is.

Unfortunately, the slow system RAM will not speed up your graphics, and taking a part of the system RAM away for graphical features means at the same time a slower execution of your game and may again end in malfunctions. Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. April 14, Keep in touch and stay productive with Teams and Officeeven when you're working remotely.

Specifications of my laptop suggest that I have 2 GB of memory on graphics chip. This is clear for me. I'm not really sure what that means, but I would guess it's the extra memory that my laptop can use in case it runs out of those 2 GB, probably taken from RAM and shared between Nvidia and Intel chips.

No dedicated though. In some games in graphics settings it shows how much video memory I have and how much of that will be used if I change graphics settings. Depending on game it might say that I have 2 or 4 GB. I am usually monitoring performance in Task Manager while playing games. Can someone explain all this confusing memory listings? What is the difference between all those three and how much video memory do I actually have? Do I have 2, 4, 10 or 12 GB? And how can I use all of it so I can run games in higher quality?

This is completely different subject. I am quite familiar about system requirements of games and how the amount of it would affect gameplay.

How to increase Video RAM for Ryzen 3 2200g (Max to 2GB)

The question was about all the different video memory my system shows I have and how to use it all. If I count all this together, including shared video memory, it makes it 12 GB. Did this solve your problem? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Just installed speccy version v 1. On an amd m with g, mb dedicated vram but it can go to 3 gig of vram; the system only has 8 gig of physical, but have been able to play just cause 2 on it.

From your post, there is 16 gig of physical ram in the pc? The only other issue could be the one that plagued the gtx with mb being of a lower rate.

I CAN, of course, prevent reaching that point by choosing the batch size suitably low, but I do wonder if there's a way to make use of these "extra" 8GB of RAM, or if that's it and TensorFlow requires the memory to be dedicated. Even if CUDA could use it somehow.

This doesn't take into account latency. In practice, running a GPU compute task on data which is too big to fit in GPU memory and has to be transferred over PCIe every time it is accessed is so slow for most types of compute that doing the same calculation on CPU would be much faster.

Good question. I can think of a couple of possibilities:. This may be eg extra texture memory, etc. It could also not be real memory but just a memory mapped area that corresponds to GPU memory. However, TensorFlow does not allow it due to performance reasons.

This happens mostly when you play games. You can however force an app to use the dedicated GPU. You must be running Windows 10 or later for this to work. Open the Settings app and go to the System group of settings. Select the Display tab and scroll down.

Once selected, click the Browse button and select the app. Whenever it detects that an app needs additional, more powerful resources, the dedicated GPU kicks in.

That said, you can still force an app to use the dedicated GPU. Return to your desktop. Right-click the app you want to force to use the dedicated GPU. With AMD, you can select which apps will use the dedicated graphics card. After you add the application, open the dropdown next to it for setting graphics options. The app will always use AMD graphics card. We should mention that some options may differ depending on your driver version and the GPU model you have. These solutions will still work but the options may be found under a different menu.
